Cape Lookout is designated as a Marine Conservation Area (MCA) to conserve ecological functions of rocky habitat resources.
You can help safeguard this remarkable area by following tidepool etiquette and the site-specific regulations. Check out the tide, beach safety tips, and tidepool species guide to best enjoy the wonders of this site.
At Cape Lookout MCA there is no take of shellfish and other invertebrates in the intertidal area, except that clams, Dungeness crab, red rock crab, mussels, piddocks, scallops, and shrimp may be taken. No take of marine plants, seaweeds and kelps is allowed*.
The MCA includes approximately 2 miles of intertidal and shallow subtidal areas beginning just north of Rover Creek and extending west along the Cape's south flank, around the tip, then east along the north flank (OAR 141-142-0145).
